Storage Shed Plans - Shelves, Racks, and Hooks

January 24th, 2010 by admin

You and a friend or two can build a shed in a very short amount of time. The storage shed can be constructed in a matter of a few hours or take a leisure pace completing it as a weekend project.

The building process is short compared to the planning stage. Designing your own storage shed plans will take a great deal of time versus ordering a set of storage shed plans that meet your requirements and needs.

There are thousands of plans available on the internet. The storage shed plan you choose will have step by step instructions, construction drawings with details, and a materials list.

The next step is building or installing shelves, racks, and hooks.

Think list:

Look at what you are going to store. Place items into separate piles. Take accurate measurements. Correct height, depth, and width will be needed.

Self questions:

Do you want to use pegboard, brackets, or hooks? Do you need storage shelves in the shed for both the interior and the exterior? Are you going to utilize your woodworking craftsmanship and build shelves, workbench, counter space, chests, floating shelves, attached or free standing vertical storage space, and draws?

At this point I think you are beginning to realize how important storage shed plans are becoming and planning ahead for shelves, racks, and hooks.

The storage materials that you select will depend on use and protection offered by the different building materials.

As a woodworking craftsman you are knowledgeable of the fact that wood is the first choice for shelving in sheds because it is more versatile and offers more styles.

It can be money saving as you build your shelves from any left over wood that was not used when building the storage shed or old wood scraps which you have located around your house, the dumpster, or asked permission from the neighbor that is building a new house on your street.

Helpful tips:

Use 2×4’s to make frame, cut scrap plywood to fit the shelf area, and stain or paint the shelves if you wish.

Use plastic painters’ tarp material lining for the shelves for storing gas cans, paint, and pesticides.

Closet type shelving with lock for safety or security.

Use plastic bins for storing potting soil or soil additives.

Use large bins for storing seasonal products like Christmas tree ornaments and decorations.

Metal, plastic, wood, or basket bins should be uniform in size to allow for more storage. Irregular shapes take up additional space.

Use a garden caddy for hand tools, gloves, plant seeds and other small items used in gardening.

Workbench, ideal height is usually thirty six inches. Install in the shed  or attach to the shed on the outside wall or design it freestanding.

Hang rakes, spades, and shovel handles up, sharp edges down.

Hang power tools, bicycles, and larger tools in the rafters.

Tool racks can be attached to pegboards or studs.

January 21st, 2010 by admin

Whether you are in the office or in your home, shelves are exactly what you need to make sure that you have enough storage space to store all of your belongings so that they are not in your way and are kept safe.

Shelves are a great way to be able to store items as they come in a range of formats to suit your needs and here at BiGDUG they come in a range of prices to suit your specific budget.

There are shelves that can be attached to the wall, the shelves comes with all of the fixings that you need to be ale to attach them to the walls. They work well as you do not require a lot of space to be able to hang the shelves.

Obviously, when you hang the shelves you need to make sure that they are hung correctly as if they are not hung straight the items that you try to put on the shelves may fall off.

The basics of putting up shelves are not complicated, but they are essential. Many an enthusiastic amateur makes avoidable errors on their first time. Even people with more shelving savoir faire can neglect the basics if they are in a hurry or get distracted. It is always worth taking your time to ensure your shelving is ultimately ‘fit for purpose.’

There are also shelves that come in the form of racking systems that has a number of shelves on a unit to suit your needs. These are easy to put together as they come in boltless units and they are easily assembled with the assistance of a rubber mallet. Shelves that come in the form of a unit does take up floor space when assembled and in place so if you have limited space then this may not be the storage solution for you.

What are the Main Facts to Remember When you Want to Sell Comic Books?

January 19th, 2010 by admin

When many of us buy comic books we frequently read them and place them on a pile of old comic books or our book shelves. This attitude changes when we are collecting these comic books. In these cases we take great steps to preserve our comic book collection. There are instances where we may decide to sell comic books that we have doubles of or ones that we feel are bringing the value of our collection down.

To ensure that you are able to sell comic books that you have no need of there are certain steps that must be seen to. As many people want to have good quality comic books whether it is just for reading pleasure or for serious collecting you will need to make sure that both the inside and the exterior of the comic book are in excellent condition.

To sell comic books you will need to preserve the appearance of your comic books. You can store them in clear plastic sleeves with a piece of acid free cardboard at the back of the comic book to give the comic book a strong support. With the help of the supporting cardboard you should store your comic book upright on your book shelves.

This way you can be sure that your comic book will not develop any creases in the cover from the pressure of the other comic books. Besides storing your comics in an acid free plastic cover sleeve if you want to sell comics books you should know what are the types of comic books that are very popular.

These comic books will help you to gain a profit from selling them but these popular comics should also be in excellent condition. The other types of comic books that sell well are the first series comic books. There are many people who love buying these types of rare comic books.

When you sell comic books like these and they are in mint condition you can be sure that you can get a very high price for these early edition comic books. The best places to sell comic books that you have no need of or ones that you are expecting to get a profit from is your comic book store.

The internet and auction houses are also good places where you can sell comic books. There are many comic book collectors who attend these places so they can see what sort of comics are for sale and hope to buy a rare or coveted comic book. When you are looking to sell comic books the main facts to remember is that the various comic books must be ones that are in demand and the condition of the comic books should be excellent.

If you ask Santa for Garage Shelving, be Specific

January 18th, 2010 by admin

So, you sat on Santa’s knee this year and told him that you wanted some garage shelving for Christmas so that you could have a more organized garage, but were you that general or were you more specific as to what type of garage shelving you wanted? Not all shelving is equal and the same, it comes in many different sizes, materials and configurations. Let’s take a look at some types of shelving available so that you can send Santa a note with the details.

The most obvious category of shelves are open shelves, the other type are closed shelves, usually called cabinets. Let’s take a look at both of these types of garage shelving.

Regular open shelving is what most people think of when they think of garage shelving, but they are a couple of primary differences between them and indoor shelves. First, they are more heavy duty, and second, they are usually deeper (18 - 24 inches). I have two types of garage shelving in my garage that I really like. The first is made of a heavy duty plastic which can be broken for easy moving. The other is metal wire with plastic coating. Both of these shelves are wide and deep. They are great for storing a large variety of things, such as camping supplies, sleeping bags, large tools, boxes of keep sakes etc. Neither of them have solid shelves, so this makes it easy to see from below what items are stored, and allow the stored items to breathe.

There are also the shelves which are actually attached to the garage walls. Similar shelving is also seen inside. Basically, there is the metal strips which attach to the walls with slots for the brackets. The shelves are then places on the brackets. These are normally narrower, the standard 12 inches, and usually solid. But if you do not have floor space for standing shelves, these can be a great option for holding tool boxes and smaller items.

A unique type of garage shelving on the market today are overhead storage shelves. They are shelves which hang from the ceiling. These are perfect for storing items that are only accessed occasionally, such as seasonal items and holiday decorations. If you want easier access to overhead shelves, you can get one that is on a pulley system that allows the shelf to be lowered to the floor.

The second main type of garage shelving are shelves with doors, otherwise known as cabinets. These are great for storing items that you want to keep behind doors, such as wood stains, gardening chemicals and other dangerous items you want to keep out of little hands (this is especially good if you can lock your cabinet).

Cabinets are also great because they keep your garage looking neat and tidy. Everything is kept behind doors. This is really nice for smaller tools and gardening items, as well as sports equipment among many other things. You can get tall cabinets that sit on the floor, or smaller cabinets that you hang on the wall. They also come in a variety of widths, as well as made out of many different materials, such as metal, melamine, and wood. They also come in different finishes and colors.

So, don’t just ask Santa for garage shelving, but tell him EXACTLY what you want, that way your garage can be organized in the best way possible for you.

How To Maximize Space Using Storage Shelving

January 16th, 2010 by admin

Storage shelving provides you with the most efficient method of maximizing any storage space that you have. There are many storage shelving systems available where single shelves are supported by fixed brackets on fully adjustable units.

The storage shelving can be designed to blend in with the style, character or shape of a room or it may even act as a decorative feature. But when using any form of shelving it is important that the materials it is made from are strong enough to bear any loads that are put on them.

Shelves come in a variety of different materials from wood (of different thicknesses and finishes) to glass or metal ones. However the simplest storage shelving around is that on a non adjustable track system.

When you have decided what type of shelving support system you are going to need and have decided on the shelving material you are going to use you will now need to either install it yourself or get a professional company to do it for you.

However if you are putting up the shelving system yourself make sure that you secure the unit securely to the wall and take care when hanging the shelves and make sure that they are perfectly level.

It is important that you use the correct hardware that suits the structure of your property’s walls; there are a large range of both metal and plastic anchors that you can use as well as bolts with spring clips that are great for securing screws or brackets to cavity walls.

If you happen to be mounting a lightweight shelf on a cavity wall then use anchors made of plastic or metal (most of these have wings which expand against the wall within the cavity). It is vital that you choose the right size bit for your drill as recommended by the manufacturer of the anchors that you are using. Now mark the place where you want to drill and drill the holes. Then insert the anchor and then drive home the screw to secure the anchor in place (as the screw turns the wings on the anchor expand).

If you are looking for a more flexible type of storage shelving then the best one is known as a track system and is easy to install and great for storing objects of different sizes (such as books).

So when looking for a good storage shelving system all you need do is either visit your local DIY store or carry out a search of the internet and you will soon see the styles that are now available. Many of which are also easy to install yourself.

Wall Shelving Ideas: Wall Shelving - Designer Or Budget

January 13th, 2010 by admin

Wall shelving can be anything from traditional to way-out: there is probably enough wall shelving ideas to suit just about anybody and any budget. One of my son’s favorite wall shelves when he was younger was a Nike ‘tick’ - a shelf quite literally shaped as a ‘tick’. I bought this for him from IKEA - whether these shelves are still available there I don’t know, but you can always browse their website to find out. Personally, I have always been a particular fan of glass wall shelving, with one of my favorite designs being supplied by Argos. Basically it is a set of adjustable glass shelves which come flat packed for home assembly. The whole set is 60cm in height and 45cm wide, all held together with a dark wood center piece.

It is described as a Wave 3-Tier Glass Wall Shelving Unit and retails at around $41.00. Of course, if you want to push the boat out, there is the Harmony Wall Panelled Shelving Unit 200 manufactured by Arena Furniture which, at its full retail price, sells at $954.00 or thereabouts. It consists of 9 glass shelves set into three individual shelving tiers. Perhaps I am cynical, but I think a lot of the price relates to the furniture manufacturer’s name than the actual worth of the wall shelving unit. You might also be interested in the Alcove Shelving Unit, designed by Terence Conran. The design looks like a pile of open-ended cardboard boxes on top of each other - as I said, I’m cynical - made out of walnut. It is also made in white.

One shelving idea I do like is described as Patent Office Shelving, made by Retrouvius. This is an adjustable shelving system manufactured in cast iron, some provided as single sided and others as double-sided. These shelves retail at around $955.00 so, although they are described as being retail shelving, at that price and given that they are attractive enough, I would use them at home. They would certainly be strong enough to take the weight of most of my books! The Kalusto company sell a good range of attractive shelving, although I certainly would not describe them as being cheap. One wall shelving unit in their range is called the Chicane Wall Hanging Book Shelf, part of the Tonelli Collection. It retails at a cool $1,251.00 - and, when you think these shelves will only take up to 5kg in weight, I think that is a shelf too far!

Wall Shelving Systems to Satisfy Every Requirement

January 11th, 2010 by admin

Wall shelving units are great ideas to maximize floor space and organize storage, especially where accommodation comes at a premium. But high premium accommodation is usually associated with trendy penthouses or up market condos. In such an environment you will want to make sure that the wall shelving unit matches the decor of your accommodation. Modern furniture showrooms have extended ranges of wall shelving units to suit your most specific requirement.

The kind of wall shelving unit you should buy depends on a number of factors. One of the most critical of these factors is the location of the wall shelving unit. That and the space available in that location. For example, you want a wall shelving unit over on the east wall. There is a projection on that wall at a height of…? You must know the exact height of the projection because it will obstruct the wall shelving unit if the wall shelving unit is higher than it is. Other choices include free-standing or wall-mounted wall shelving units. That choice depends on how permanently the wall shelving units are located.

The load you’ll place on the wall shelving units are yet another important factor in the choice of a wall shelving unit. You’ll require a heavy metal wall shelving unit for heavy loads, a glass or wood wall shelving unit for light to moderate loads, and wireframe units for those bulky goods which may not be very heavy. Make the best use of the range of wall shelving units that are available to you. A good choice will mean more convenience, more storage, and more floor space!

Survey the market thoroughly before buying a wall shelving unit. There are so many styles and varieties available that you’ll be able to get the exact shade of color that you want in any particular style and variety. So don’t hesitate to think out loud when you go window shopping for the ideal wall shelving unit.

What are the broad categories of wall shelving units? These categories are free-standing, hanging, modular, adjustable, or fixed. Then there are special categories like the track-type wall shelving unit. This wall shelving unit can be reconfigured very easily and very quickly. You can change almost everything about this type of wall shelving unit. Really amazing!

There are other types of wall shelving units too. Which to use depends on individual requirements. For a child’s room it is best to get an wall-mounted wall shelving unit with adjustable shelves. For a library, choose a wall-mounted wall shelving unit with fixed shelves.

A free-standing wall shelving unit is best suited for a designer’s room where the room is completely made over every few weeks to make a presentation to a client. Don’t use a free-standing wall shelving unit to hold heavy articles. It is always a good idea to anchor a free-standing wall shelving unit to the wall so that it doesn’t topple over.

All in all, there are so many choices, so many options available to you that it is both easy and difficult to make a choice of wall shelving unit. Suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed in getting the wall shelving unit according to your exact specification. You can order your wall shelving unit as-it-is directly from the showroom, or get yours custom-assembled. A wall shelving unit is a great way to organize your storage. At the same time you utilize the wall space which would otherwise be wasted. This utilization of vertical space frees up valuable floor space. So let’s go shopping for a brand new wall shelving unit. Like I said, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Garage Shelving

January 8th, 2010 by admin

Every man’s garage is his castle. Well even if your not a motor-head enthusiast and spend your days pulling apart engines sheltered from the rain, the garage is an indisputable assist when it comes to storage, be it the family car, the row boat or everything that everyone has forgotten about. Yet to take full advantage of the space available one really needs to invest in some decent garage shelving, which can be purchased from a diverse range of online stores. Good quality shelving can turn that dusty tin box into an organised retreat away from the pressures of family life.

There is a big variety of garage shelving and so it should not be too hard to find the type that fits your needs from any well stocked online retailer. For the DIY man (and woman, garages’ need not be gender biased) the galvanised slotted angle shelving is the perfect product as it can be cut to a myriad of lengths to suit and fitted together as you please, thus resulting in a very versatile range of application. The material is relatively sturdy to, so for most household goods it should be sufficient. If you are after more heavy duty garage shelving then the shortspan steel frame is durable whilst remaining fully adjustable. The shortspan can hold loads of up to 280kg whilst maintaining a degree of flexibility. Alternatively, for the really heavy stuff the longspan racking system is better adjusted to your needs. The solid steel frames can bare loads of up to 340kg on most models, even more on some.

These cover the larger floor based garage shelving systems, which are ideal for storing large quantities of equipment and most garages will need at least one. However for much of the smaller stuff it is worth investing in a tray system or alternatively; nail baby food jar lids to a board mounted above your workspace, the screw the jars onto the lids to hold those tiny things. Other good ways of developing space is to purchase garage shelving that hangs from the roof. This is an often neglected area and can, if utilised correctly, increase the storage volume by anywhere up to 25%. By using shelving that attaches to the roof or the wall you are making the most of the vertical plane, thus leaving the floor free of clutter and importantly spacious enough for important things like the car or row boat. Once you have decided upon which type of garage shelving will fit your particular spatial needs, be it heavy duty longspan racking or bicycle hooks to hang your peddle bike from the roof, all that is needed is to purchase the required item. For this you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home (or garage if that’s where your internet is), online retailers of garage Shelving have seriously grown in the past decade. Now you can simply browse the net and you should find more then enough variety for your needs.

Since we started in 2004, we have been sending out thousands of parcels every week to homeowners and businesses within the UK and Southern Ireland. http://www.bigdug.co.uk. Big Dug is your one-stop-shop for all your racking, Shelving and storage needs.

Wall Shelves – Organizational Break Through

January 6th, 2010 by admin

One can imagine living in the early days and the need for organization. Humans do not like clutter it can affect your mood, drive and overall persona. Wall shelves are one way that helps eliminate the disorder around you. It’s versatile, gives you more storage space and dresses up your walls.

Wall shelves can be a focal point in a room or fill the entire room. It’s a functional attractive solution to our every day hectic lives. They are made with innovative designs that range from classic to exotic. They come in many sizes, styles and finishes. There are wall shelves in contemporary, traditional and modern designs. Some of the finishes that are available are dark and light oak, mackintosh, mahogany, copper, bronze, stainless steel and glass, just to name a few. They are available in every color and grain. There are also various price ranges to choose from. Starting at least expensive, you have your choice of wooden or plastic. When it comes to mid price range, there is particle board and the most expensive is glass, solid timber or clear acrylic.

You can use a shelving unit to divide a room or display collectables. They can hold books, photos, mementoes, clocks, appliances and other decorative items.  You can find them ready made or have them custom built. Whatever you choose they maximize your wall space. They usually have easy to assemble instructions or you may have to hire a handy man or contractor.

There are many options for wall shelves in the market place. They have free standing, hanging, modular, adjustable, floating and fixed. There are also a variety of shapes. They come in rectangular, round, square, curved and triangular.

Adjustable shelving is the most practical. With pre assembled units you can fasten them to a wall and transport them easily in one piece. This is also a good choice if you tend to rearrange your room often. Free standing shelves fit inside a wooden or metal frame. Another option is purchasing one with a track system. This allows you to move and adjust shelves to any height or width. You are able to tailor the shelves to fit your needs. This is ideal for a child’s room, so they can have items placed at their height for easy accessibility. For a formal room, make certain you purchase a shelving unit that is sturdy but also matches the architectural style of the room.

When hanging wall shelves you must have proper wall attachments and proper bracket spacing. This is needed to prevent sagging of the individual shelves.  It is important and wise to measure before you make the purchase.

The wall shelves you choose will seem to make the room come alive with its charm and beauty. This organizational addition will become an integral part of your room.

Display your Hair and Beauty Products on a Glass Shelving Unit That Will Highlight Their Quality

January 5th, 2010 by admin

Presentation within your salon can say a lot about your business. That’s why it is important that your products should not be stuck out of sight on an old shelf, but rather displayed in a location where they can easily be seen. For all your quality products, display them the way in which they deserve to be displayed - at the front of the salon, or as part of a window display, for example.

As a business your customer’s first impressions are invaluable to you, and by presenting your hair products in a stylish and professional way you will make a great impression on your customers. To achieve this, a quality glass ceiling to floor shelving display will catch your client’s attention and confirm the high standard of your salon.

If you are displaying hair and beauty products, a medium ceiling to floor display would be ideal but if your need a different size, there are displays available to suit most requirements. You might also consider having a poster pocket to display literature supporting your products. For example, an A2 portrait pocket above the shelves, connected to the wires. This will create an eye catching and often irresistible display and reassure your clients of overall excellence.

The ceiling to floor shelving displays are made with 4m long cables that you simply cut to your required length, while the fixtures for ceiling to floor mounting are included and easy to assemble. The display shelves are toughened and polished 6mm safety glass which you clamp to your required height on the wire. The glass shelving is very safe and also provides a hygienic display for your salon’s products and can be easily wiped clean.

If your products are not being presented with the quality they deserve or you want to prove the high standard of your salon with interior shelving units, then companies such as Displaysense can offer a range of retail shelving displays to suit most requirements, and can provide a variety of glass shelf displays with the option of supportive graphic poster holders to create the perfect, professional shelving display.

Chrome Wire Shelves For Organization

January 3rd, 2010 by admin

Lots of people try to find the best ways to keep their home or business organized with the amount of stuff they might have in it. There are many solutions to that kind of question, but most of them range in high prices and designs that go for looks over how they work. Chrome wire shelves are the best solution for this because they are inexpensive and are very durable when it comes to keeping things all in one place.

These types of shelves also have many different forms and shapes they can come in to fit anywhere in your home, whether it is inside a cabinet storage or in your garage there is a type. The best thing about them is that they are very hidden, so they don’t stick out too much, the objects on the shelf are most shown. This is also the reason why the are no expensive at all, and if you are buying in bulk it can save you a lot of money. They don’t have the best looks and design like other types of shelves for storage; such as wooden hanging shelves, but they still look quite alright for a shelf.

Another great thing about chrome wire shelves is that they are the most durable out of all the other types. This  mean they can hold a lot more stuff on it without it breaking. They also last a very long time, and replacing them after a long time won’t be necessary. They come with many different feature such as wheels for easy transportation if you run a business and you need to move things from one place to another. Other shelves come in many different levels, that will fit your need for how much stuff you have.

If you are buying in bulk it is best to negotiate a deal, and maybe even get a discount on shipping if possible, because this can bump up the price quite higher. So always contact the supplier before settling for the price they ask for.

I work on improving the home and making it more durable, I research ways you can do that for a low price.

Shelves Offer Perfect Garage Storage Solutions

December 31st, 2009 by admin

In most homes today, unless you have a storage unit or shed, the most common place to store all of our extra items is in the garage. There are many garage storage solutions available today beyond home built shelves using scrap 2′x4’s and plywood (though these have worked very well for many people in past). One great thing about shelves are that they take advantage of the vertical space in your garage, freeing up much of the floor space for other uses.

There are two main types of shelving: free standing and wall mounted shelves.

Free standing shelves can be made out of a variety of materials, including pressed board, resin, wood, metal and heavy duty wire that is often coated with rubber. The main nice thing about free standing utility shelves as garage storage solutions is that you can move them around, placing them where they are needed most. When placed strategically in the garage, you can even use them as a divider, such as to separate a shop area from the rest of the garage.

This style of shelves can come in a variety of depths, commonly from 12” to 20”. These also can come in a variety of styles. Some come on lockable casters so that you can move them easily and them lock them into place so that they do not move. Others, such as some of the heavy duty plastic / resin shelves easily break down for portability. The solid, heavy duty plastic coated wire shelves will hold a large amount of weight, and will not rust if they get wet, which is a big advantage over the pressed board style and for many are a preferred form of garage storage solutions.

Wall mounted shelves also come in a variety of material, though it is best to get a heavy duty shelf that is specially designed for the garage, such as one that is designed to hold up to 100 lbs. per linear foot. Heavy duty wire shelves are ideal because they do hold a lot of weight, and because of their open design you can easily see from below what is stored on shelves that are higher up on the wall. The open wire design also allows for greater air circulation which helps cut down on any mold or mildew problems if you live in humid areas.

When hanging shelves on your walls, you need to make sure that you consider what you are going to store on them so that you can plan for the correct amount of spacing between shelves, especially since they are more difficult form of garage storage solutions to move around once they are hung. One advantage to hanging shelves on the wall over free standing shelves is that you can start the shelves on the wall where ever you want, allowing a greater amount of space under the first shelf. This allows you to store some taller items (such as stools or wheel barrows) underneath.

Besides shelves, there are also many other great garage storage solutions to help you make your garage a safer and more productive work area, such as garage cabinets and utility hooks. So, start with shelves, and then add other options until you have designed a garage that best suits your storage and hobby needs. After all, a garage should be more than just a catch all for miscellaneous items around your house.

Shelves and Decorative Shelving ideas

December 29th, 2009 by admin

When we realize that Shelving is very important factor of storage its great to brush up our grey cells and think about innovative ideas of storing all different things like clothes, books, papers, cleaning products, collectibles, shoes, office items, warehouse goods and decorative items too.

Their are variety of shelves

1. Wall shelves are easy to mount to your wall and can add a great decorative element to any room. Wall shelves are usually mounted on the wall with several anchored screws or brackets usually driven into the studs within the wall itself.

2. Corner shelves are a great option that can provide purpose to areas of a room that are usually neglected. Corner shelves are great in smaller rooms where floor space is at a premium as they provide storage for all sorts of objects such as photographs, collectibles or sports memorabilia.

3. Ladder Shelves are a great option for some extra floor space. Ladder Shelves can be used in a variety of ways, from storing supplies in office to displaying photos, books and more in living room.

4. Suspension or Hanging shelves consists of any number of shelves that are hung one below the other by a rope or a nylon webbing. The great thing about Suspension Shelves is that they hang from the ceiling leaving the floor space below free to use.

5.Floating shelves preferred over most wall shelves in homes as well as in business settings. Like wall shelves Floating Shelves maximize space by not using floor space. The thing that floating shelves offer that other wall shelves don’t is their ability to hide the mounting hardware between the wall and the Shelf – so you never see it – keeping your walls and Home looking Great!

Most popular way to decorate walls is shelving. Location of shelving depends part on where the shelving is located, whether or not you want to use your shelves in a practical manner or for decoration, or both. It also depends upon the shelves themselves, whether or not they can be painted or otherwise enhanced.

Below given are some ideas for shelving in different situation.

1. Practical
First, think about where your shelving is located, and whether or not you need to use that shelving to hold practical items. Even if you do, you can still make it decorative. Decorate these practical shelves by placing a pretty candle next to the stack of towels or a crystal bowl full of decorative soap. In a kitchen, shelves may be used to hold dishes or other practical items.

2.Decorative only
Many people use shelves to display decorative items only. Displaying a collection on a shelf is a great way to decorate it. A row of bud vases placed on a shelf, with a single flower in each vase, can really dress up a room. Frames arranged on a shelf are a classic way to display your favorite pictures.

3. Special tips
Paint is a great way to decorate shelving as well. Often, people are reluctant to hang or use shelving because it is the wrong color. An inexpensive can of spray paint can easily fix that. If you can’t paint and the shelving unit is still unappealing, try placing pieces of fabric on each shelf to hide the structure.

Wall Book Shelf - Fiction or Non Fiction

December 25th, 2009 by admin

The central theme in my home repeats itself over and over from room to room. In my family, one of the greatest pleasures we have is to read. Walking through my house you will find wall book shelves in corners against the walls and even under stair cases. A wall book shelf is a great source of pride and education for any home. I have noticed it can influence the behavior of everyone in the house. Just having books present makes everyone more likely to read.

When books were written by hand and were not produced in great quantities they were kept in small containers. As volumes accumulated homes of the wealthy started storing them on shelves or cupboards. Later the doors were discarded and the evolution of the book shelf proceeded.

There are two main types of wall book shelves. Either ready made which may be adjustable or fixed shelves which you can build yourself from either raw materials or from a ready made pack.

You can find many different types of materials like chipboard, plywood, blockboard, softwood, hardwood, metal, glass and plastic. Chipboard is readily available and inexpensive. Plywood and blockboard are mainly materials that are used for sheds and storage areas. Softwood gives your shelves a great effect if it is cut and finished properly. Hardwood is the best choice for most shelves because of its strength and durability. The downside is that it is very expensive. Metal is strong but it is normally used for pre built units. You would need many special tools to build a shelf out of metal. Glass can be a safety hazard and it is mainly used for light weight displays. Plastic works best for small shelving units.

Shelving should suit the way that you live and the space that you have. There are an abundance of different sizes to accommodate your walls. They are a perfect way to display your books and collectables as a decorative theme. Plastic and some woods can be painted to match the decor of your room. Some ready made shelving has intricate fancy wood carvings for an elegant finish. I have also seen fabric or wallpaper placed on the front of the shelves for an artistic look and feel.

On the wall book shelve that my husband built by hand he screwed decorative knobs into the unit so we could hang objects from it. There is also a large shelf on top where I have placed my decorative plates for display. As an added touch there are picture frames and candle holders in between the books. This has given it a modern and clean look.

A wall book shelf helps to de-clutter a room and makes the room look larger and can serve a double purpose by dividing a room. Light colored shelves divide without being to dominating. For a dramatic impact you should pick out a darker shade of wood. Arrange the books by size for a more visually pleasing effect. Make sure you store the larger books on the bottom in the deeper shelves. Another option is to cover your books with a monotone paper for a uniform look. In my house we have separated the fiction and non fiction from each other. This way depending on what we want to read it is easier to locate. You should always aim to fit the shelves safely and securely. Never overload the shelves. This can be dangerous especially if you have children.

My favorite bookshelf is currently in my bedroom right next to my bed.  It serves a double duty. I use it as my night table and as a storage area. Its design is of a house. It has compartments that I can keep my keys, watch, cell phone and a few books in. There is also a ridge on top of the house so when I place my book on top it keeps the page I last read.

The wall book shelf can be a functional sculpture and a handsome space saving solution. So whether you enjoy fiction or non fiction you will reap the rewards by adding this piece of furniture to your decor.

Organizing Your Entryway, From Hanging Shelves To Coat Racks

December 21st, 2009 by admin

Maybe you have always wanted a place that had a touch of the country charm, or perhaps you are simply tired of the sterile and harsh decorating that has been so popular in recent years. If you are interested in adding a touch of rustic appeal to your home, you are definitely not alone. Many people are a little bit hesitant to start adding this element into their decorating, afraid of overdoing it, but you’ll find that there are plenty of ways to get a lovely rustic accent to your home without going overboard. Take a look at a few tips below to get you started, and soon you’ll be enjoying a whole new look.

1. Rugs

Rugs are a terrific addition to hardwood floors or to the kitchen and the bathroom, and you’ll find that adding the right one can make your space enormously welcoming. Head to the flea markets or to the boutiques and find some soft, touchable rugs in warm colors. Avoid rugs with geometric patterns or with straight edges, instead looking for circular rugs or oval ones that will reinforce a look of gentle edges and give your home a yielding quality.

2. Blankets

Leaving woven blankets strewn around on your couches and chairs is a great way to create a more homey environment. Make sure you select your blankets well; look for ones that have a handwoven look and that are made out of natural materials. Blankets made of sheep wool, hemp fiber or mohair make your living spaces wonderfully inviting, and you’ll find that they are perfect when you are feeling a little chilly when you read or when you want to lie down for a nap.

3. Coat Racks

The coat rack is a utilitarian item, but you’ll also find that it can add a great deal of charm to your surroundings. Avoid coat racks that are simply metal and instead look for ones that have been loving crafted from maple or oak. The wood will add a great accent to your home, and you’ll find they also give you a terrific way to get your coats off the chairs and couches. For a more rough look, choose a wooden coat rack made out of unfinished wood.

4. Shopping for antiques

When you think about antiques, you might be thinking of fine art pieces that are far beyond your price range, but you’ll find that with just a little bit of effort that you’ll be able to find some excellent rustic elements to your home. Take a look at estate sales and garage sales for old farm or home equipment, and don’t worry too much if it’s not in such great shape. Objects like this are terrific for conversation pieces Alternately, you can choose pieces that function well, despite being more than thirty or forty years old, like tea kettles, mugs or other pieces of kitchenware.

You can do a lot to make your home welcoming and inviting, and simply by looking around, you’ll be able to see some excellent options open to you. Make sure you don’t miss out, and take some time to really see what you can do with your surroundings!

We can make best utilization of the corners by adding shelves their and take advantage of storing multi utility and handy articles we use at home.

Although furnishing an empty room can be fairly difficult but finding space to put extra things in an already furnished room is even more difficult.

Corner wall shelves allows to use those corners, where nothing else useful will fit, for convenient storage and decoration.

Corner shelves can be made from wood slats that are attached directly to the wall.

A bookshelf, drawer set, rack, or stackable boxes that fit the corner are perfect for any storage with corner shelves.

Items like books, crafts, files, fruit holder, photo displays and more can be placed in the corner shelves.

Corner Shelves are spacious, practical and versatile for every item including our precious collectibles too.

Hanging Shelves and their many Uses

December 7th, 2009 by admin

Hanging shelves are great for long-term display in the home and can even be used as an industrial storage tool at your workplace or the garage. Hanging shelves are incredibly easy to find, I prefer to get mine at Amazon.com. This is because shipping can be amazingly cheap and you can find a wide selection to choose from.

After you have some hanging shelves you need to find a way to use them. The first kind I will talk about is Glass hanging shelves. Glass shelves are see through, usually for aesthetics or looks because they are designed uniquely and can break if used economically. Glass shelves really fit the home well because they have an indoor quality to them. Much more so than other shelves out there.

Hanging sweater shelves are also used for the home but they are used for the purpose of hanging clothing like sweaters. This is especially usefult to you in the wintertime because sweaters are necessary to keep warm.

Hanging storage shelves are rarely used in the home. They are used for storage in the garage, outdoor shed, or at some other warehouse because they can store away goods and usually come in wood or iron so they are durable and don’t break.

Come back later to learn about more uses for hanging shelves for both your home and for storage as well!

Hanging Shelves For Your Home

November 28th, 2009 by admin

Hanging shelves are a popular part of most people’s homes even though you never really pay too much attention to them.  I mean how often do you look at the hanging book shelves as opposed to the books themselves?

Most people out there underestimate how these shelves that hang are part of the office or around the home.  So they tend to forget them and look for other ways to display the books, wall decor or any other things that they need to hang.

Shelving can also be used for organization and things like that.  For example, if you want to hang sweaters, glass, books, clothes, or other decor in your house, you would use a hanging organizer like this.  The problem is most people really don’t see how many different variations of shelving there really is out there.

Instead they just get whatever is out there in the store and that sometimes doesn’t fit the home or room that needs the indoor shelf.
If you end up ready to buy hanging shelves, you should be ready to list what you use and what you will put it towards.  For example, consider how much weight you will need to hold, what the dimensions will be, what color you want it to be and how it will match the room.

Also you need to consider the space on the wall and how the shelves will fit into it.  Sometimes glass might be better, other times you should stick with wood or whatever storage shelving you can find.  You need to do this ahead of time so that you don’t end up buying the wrong kind for your home.
Selecting the best type of storage shelving might require you to ask a professional and get some more questions about it, but usually we can use our own judgement for this activity.

Hanging shelves are really important for you and you should get a guideline when picking the correct unit.  If you contact someone make sure they have experience in the area, but if you just look for it yourself, be sure to plan and take the time so you make a good money investment.  Don’t forget to secure your hanging shelves with a solid piece of holding material so it won’t break off the wall and damage something.

Stay tuned for more to come with shelving, indoor storage and decor.
